Lauryn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 16, in September of 2017, 3 weeks into her Junior year of high school and 6 weeks into her 4th year swimming competitively for her school's girls' varsity swim team. She started treatment immediately. Due to the leukemia and treatment, she was unable to attend school so she was tutored at home when she was feeling well enough to participate. Through her hard work and determination, she was able to pass her classes and Regents exams and attend her Junior prom, all while going through treatment.
She has been in school her whole senior year, still receiving treatment, on the honor roll all 4 quarters and is going to graduate on time with her class. To say Lauryn is a “fighter” is putting it mildly. It has been her strength and determination, along with the wonderful care of the doctors and nursing staff at Albany Medical Center, that has helped our family and friends walk step by step and side by side with her.
