In August of 2014, Abby was just 3 years old when she was diagnosed with Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Months prior, we had been in and out of the doctors’ offices with various issues, mainly ear infections, exhaustion, and tummy problems. After being diagnosed as anemic and starting iron supplements we noticed she started having unexplainable bruising and would become lethargic with pain in her legs. We thought she may be having an allergic reaction to the supplements, so we brought her to Albany Med. Never did we imagine to learn what we did. We went from having a typical healthy child with a few ear infections and anemia, to being diagnosed with cancer in one day.
Abby handled her two and a half year treatment very well. She endured two bone marrow aspirations, 18 spinal taps, 9 blood and 11 platelet transfusions, numerous bags of chemo, and countless pills; all while wearing her contagious smile. We are happy to say she has been in remissions since September of 2014 and finished her chemo treatment in October of 2016. Abby continues to see her oncologist every other month to have her blood counts monitored.
Abby is smart, funny, energetic and very caring beautiful young lady. She loves giving back to the community. One of many ways she has done this is through her lemonade stand. “Amazing Abby’s Lemonade Stand” has raised over $6,000.00 in the past three years, for a few childhood cancer organizations. Her 4th Annual Lemonade Stand will be in June of 2018, in which her goal is to raise $2,000.00.
Aside from giving back, Abby enjoys spending time with her family, going to school, and reading chapter books. She also takes Tap and Ballet classes and will be starting gymnastics over the summer. There is typically always a smile on her face and she has a laugh that can change anyone's bad day.
