Avery Grace Lyons
Baller since 2017
Avery Grace was born on February 8, 2012. Avery was a happy and seemingly healthy infant, but eleven months later, on January 29th, 2013, Avery was diagnosed with acute infant lymphoplasmacytic leukemia. Her young age put per at high risk.
The next few days were a blur-consenting to surgery to have a port implanted in her chest so that chemotherapy treatments could be started immediately, fever, dehydration, nausea, and restless days and nights.
That was just the beginning of Avery’s fight to survive. Over the next 2 ½ years Avery endured 8 bone marrow aspirations, several blood transfusions, close to 40 lumbar punctures, hundreds of days of chemotherapy, and weeks of high dose steroid pulses to win the battle against cancer. Her award each time was a small Bead of Courage that she could place in a jar.
In April 2015, at 3 years old and after spending 811 days fighting, Avery finally completed her treatments for Leukemia. Since that time Avery has celebrated her 5th birthday, her second without cancer. She lives in Latham, NY with her mom, dad and older sister, Ryan.
Avery is a child with an amazing spirit, and most of all, a princess at heart.
